Who may use this app
This app is for Gas Safe registered engineers, and for apprentices and trainees working under the direct supervision of a Gas Safe registered engineer at a registered business. Gas work, including gas tightness testing, may only be carried out by a person who is on the Gas Safe Register for the work concerned, or by a trainee under that person's direct supervision. By creating an account you confirm that the Gas Safe business registration number you give is current and belongs to the business you work for, and, if you are not yet registered yourself, that you work under the supervision of a registered engineer there. Use of the app by anyone outside the gas industry, including people in other trades, is strictly prohibited. You must not allow anyone else to use your login. We may ask you or your employer to prove the registration, and we may suspend or delete any account where the registration cannot be confirmed, has lapsed, or has been given falsely, without notice. You are responsible for telling us if the registration ends or you leave the business. Every new account is checked against the Gas Safe Register before it can be used; until then the account is held and the app cannot be used. A trainee's records must be checked and signed off by the supervising engineer. Nothing in these terms permits anyone to carry out gas work that they are not legally entitled to do.
What this app is
Tightness Test helps a Gas Safe registered engineer carry out and record a gas tightness test following IGEM/UP/1B Edition 4: it times each stage, reads a water U-gauge from a photo you take, works out the installation volume, the permitted drop and the purge, and keeps the record. It also has a gas rate calculator that can read a gas meter from a photo. Every figure read from a photo is shown to you to check and change before it is used.
You stay in charge
The engineer carrying out the work is responsible for testing safely and to the standard, for reading the gauge correctly and for the decision to pass or fail an installation. The app is an aid and is not a substitute for training, the standard itself, the Gas Safe Register's guidance or the manufacturers' instructions. Always check the figures against the current standard.
Your records
Records belong to you. Keep copies of the PDFs you issue.
Fair use
Do not share your login, and do not use the app to record a test that was not carried out.
Our responsibility
We take care to keep the app accurate and available, but we cannot promise it will always be free of errors or interruptions. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for losses that come from relying on a result without checking it, and nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes
We may improve the app and update these terms. We will tell you about important changes.
